Brighton’s banjo maker

I have been wanting to push on with my idea of photographing local musical instrument makers so I was pleased to get a chance to see Malcolm McLeod again. I had been to see him a few months ago in his old, much smaller workshop where he was making and repairing banjos. He has now moved to a new workshop where he has much more room to work on his beautiful instruments. He is always very welcoming and appreciative of my coming to see him, but he seems to think he needs to do something particularly interesting for me to photograph. I have to keep telling him that building banjos by hand is a pretty interesting process in itself to us novices and not to worry about me. While I was there, I got to watch him replacing the old pegs on my son’s banjo.
