An art trail and exhibit of the Phoenix Project, my photo documentary of the Phoenix Estate in Lewes, will be going up in three weeks. I thought it would be a good idea to post some of the project’s blog here for those of you who don’t know about it. So here goes, a daily post about the former industrial site in the heart of Lewes that is now home to over a dozen vibrant arts and community groups. First two posts can be found here and here.
A rainy Saturday at the Skatehouse
One of the bowls at the Skatehouse is now complete – just in time for a miserable, rainy Saturday afternoon at the end of the Easter Holidays. I had been at the Skatehouse while the volunteer builders were moving rubble around and pouring concrete, but I hadn’t seen it buzzing with kids. It was exciting to see the place in action. Kids lined the rim of the new bowl, watching and waiting for their turn. I was amazed by the range of ages and abilities that all seemed to mingle easily together and I felt thankful that the commitment of a few people has created a place for kids to go, be active, be social and hone their skating skills. The Skatehouse gallery page is here.
