photo of the week: Lewes Bonfire 2015

I hope you don’t mind putting up with one more Bonfire photograph. I like this shot because it shows a slightly different aspect to the usual one seen in the showy procession along a High Street lined with spectators. Here Southover Bonfire Society have turned down this small lane towards their patch of town and eventually to their fire site out in a field on the edge of town. This is the tail end of the procession, where the burnt-out torches are collected from the side of the road and thrown into burning barrels. Although Lewes Bonfire Night offers a dazzling display for spectators, it does not take place for those spectators. It is a genuine community event that happens through the hard work of the Bonfire Society members and for the local community. I also love this photo for the diagonal line of glistening curb and cobble stones. More photos from this shoot can be found here.
