dining room as photography studio

Photographing Ouse Valley Foods’s beautiful jars of jellies, jams and chutneys is an interesting process. First thing I have to do is transform our small dining room into a photography studio by hanging lining paper from the ceiling light and sticking it to our table. For the jellies, I need the light coming from behind to show the strange and wonderful ingredients that are suspended in them. For the curds, I need soft window light from the front to show their muted colours. For the marmalade I need a clear strong light to highlight the textures of the citrus rinds. I’m lucky. I get to keep all the jars once I’ve finished photographing them, so we get to sample Ouse Valley Foods’s entire range of wonderful food.
