a Singing in the Rain sort of wedding

I photographed a lovely wedding on Saturday. It was quite a simple affair – the ceremony was at the Lewes Town Hall followed by drinks and dinner across the street at the White Hart Hotel, with just family for guests. The bride wanted me to take photos up at the top of Lewes Castle since that was where the groom had proposed. All very well and straight forward, apart from the one unknown factor of the weather, this being England. When we were planning the shoot over coffee, the bride, her sister (and bride’s maid), her mother and I, we talked of the possibility of it raining on the day. We laughingly suggested bringing along white wellington boots and umbrellas “just in case”. We thought umbrellas could be quite fun, if needed, but I was worried about keeping my camera dry if it really was raining that afternoon. As luck would have it, all week it was beautiful until Saturday morning when it started to pour. I got pretty wet walking up to the White Hart but by the time the wedding party walked across the High Street to the Town Hall the rain had stopped. We brought the pretty white umbrellas with us just in case, but left the wellies behind. They ended up being fun props to improvise a bit of ‘Singing in the Rain’ action. By the time we got back to the White Hart, the terrace was bathed in glowing afternoon light, with beautiful views across the valley. The gallery for this shoot can be found here.
