These photos were taken on a training trip with the Newhaven branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. The crew is made up entirely of volunteers from the surrounding region and two days a week they go on training sessions in the Channel. These sessions can always quickly become rescue missions as happened with the one I was on. This callout eventually warranted an air rescue helicopter from Southampton. The professionalism and care provided was first rate. The service the RNLI provide is free, unequivocal and not cheap to maintain. Donations can be made here.
