Lewes’s ‘Moving On Parade’, organised by Patina, is a celebration of year 6 children (11-year-olds) leaving primary school and getting ready to enter secondary school. The children spend days making the colourful costumes with the help of parents and local artists, before parading through the streets of Lewes. Each year has a theme and this year’s was the creatures of the South Downs. Bugs, birds, bats, butterflies, sheep and a giant fox paraded through streets lined with cheering spectators. I think it is one of the best days in the Lewes annual calendar.
