developing project ideas

I gave my talk last night to a group of photography students in Brighton. The class focuses on developing a project idea so their teacher, Beatrice Haverich, wanted me to talk about projects I was working on, how I develop them and what my inspirations are. I decided to speak about two ongoing series, Glynde Place and the local food photos. Preparing my photograph selection for the evening gave me a chance to really think about what I have been working on, what I look for when I am shooting, how I go about making these projects happen. It was such a treat to speak at length about my work, and to receive the very astute feedback of both Beatrice and her students. It was a huge compliment to be asked to speak, and I am so pleased that I was able to keep my nerves at bay. Public speaking is not something that comes easily to me. I guess it gets easier with practice.
