photo of the week: Ashcombe Windmill

Posted by carlotta on Thursday January 7th, 2016 at 4:15pm

This week’s photograph comes from my visit to a striking local landmark that I have admired from afar for years. Ashcombe Windmill sits proudly atop Ashcombe Down, a 15 minute walk from my house. It is newly built, although as an exact replica of a windmill that was on this site until it blew down 100 years ago.

I loved photographing the sculptural structure of the mill and its sails in the changeable, stormy/sunny weather. Although this post mill is an ancient European design, for me there was something remenicient of traditional New England architecture in the clean lines of white clapboarding against the dark sky. More photographs from this shoot can be found here.
