photo of the week: kitchen bliss

Lately I have been focussing on photographing completed architectural and interior design projects, alongside my renovation work. The two need quite different approaches. Shooting finished projects requires precision: an exacting eye on building angles, camera heights, lighting and any stray disorder. To portray a designer’s vision I must aim for studied perfection. This is altogether different from the spontaneity needed to capture a particular moment in a renovation process.

This week’s photograph comes from a shoot of a local architect’s house. She needed photos of her beautiful home for a magazine article and I happily obliged. From the outside this is an ordinary Edwardian terraced cottage. Inside it is spacious and light and peacefully stylish. More photos from this shoot can be found here.
