As part of the ESCC Transparent Project, the artist Zaneta Belasicova held an art workshop for children at the beautiful new Newhaven library. Zaneta and her artistic mentor, Ashley McCormick, worked with the children to help them produce colourful collages of local views of their town. Zaneta’s final artwork of Newhaven will fill the large picture window at the back of the library. All the artwork produced at the workshop will be published on Zaneta’s blog and website.
The East Sussex County Council have hired me to document a large public art project they are undertaking entitled Transparent. The Council is renovating three libraries in the County and are commissioning pieces of public art to be located at each one. The photographs that I take will be used to record the project and to help the artists to achieve a transparent way of working. The project is also ‘transparent’ in that two of the artworks will be on glass and the third will be revealed by glass. Once the artists have been chosen by the three judging panels, I will be visiting studios and documenting the artistic processes.
