Phoenix Project, day 5

Here is the next instalment of my daily post about the Phoenix Project, a photo documentary about the former industrial site in the heart of Lewes that is now home to over a dozen vibrant arts and community groups. An exhibit and art trail of the project opens in a little under three weeks.

Old Foundry Music Studios

This new music studio has been set up in the same building as the Foundry Studios. I stopped by in the middle of an 8 hour recording session of a wonderful band Cozinha who play South American Roots Folk music. The setting was a challenge to photograph – so many instruments, leads and microphone stands to trip over, so very little light or space. I could not be in the room while recording was going on because any movement, let along the sound of the shutter release, would be recorded along with the music. I had to be patient and sneak my shots when I could. Luckily they needed a 5 minute lunch break (at 4pm) so I got them all downstairs to do a group shot in front of the corrugated door to Foundry Studios. More photos here.
