photo of the week: English weather

I had to use this photo this week because I love it. I have just submitted it, along with some others, to the Magnum Photography Awards 2016. This shot was taken during the same May Day celebrations in Lewes as the colourful dancers in a previous newsletter. I admire the English ability to ignore or accommodate inclement weather when necessary, which it so often is. This musician is playing an ancient wind instrument called a ‘Serpent’ for the Knots of May female Morris dancers. It looks to me like he has a live serpent under a colourful plastic rain poncho that happily matches his red hat. All the photographs from this shoot can be found here.
