photo of the week: Spring bridal fashion shoot

Carrying on from last week’s wedding theme, seeing as it is the season of… this week’s photo is from a bridal fashion shoot I did a couple of days ago at the historic Michelham Priory. I rarely do fashion photography and I imagine that most of the shoots are high-pressured events. If they were all like this one, I would happily do more. The model was the lovely Clara on her first assignment, a visiting German student here to learn English. My friend Anne Matthew, from the Bridal Hair Company, did the vintage styling and hair dos. The setting was the grounds of an 800-year-old priory. The weather was Spring-like with light that was a joy to photograph in. The beautiful dresses came from Brighton Vintage Wedding Dresses.
There was also enough time to get the photographs right. Aiming for some playful shots, I asked Clara to pretend to throw her bouquet. We did this perhaps three or four times in different locations, trying to get it right. I finally got this shot at the very end of the day. I like the stop-action quality of it: Clara’s body in mid-throw, the purple flowers highlighted against a background of still wintery trees bordering the medieval moat. More photographs from this shoot can be found here.
