Greenway, based near Herstmonceaux, East Sussex, is a 40 acre farm established in the 1950s. The main crops are apples and pears, supplemented by plums and cherries. Most the fruit is sold to supermarkets, with a proportion sold in local farmers’ markets. I visited during one of the final apple harvests of the year. The half dozen workers spent hours making their way down rows of dwarfed braeburn trees collecting apples and depositing them in large wooden crates.
